Alternate Media Rescues Unusual Topics from the Obscure

As the Internet evolves, so too goes the structure of media. Whereas "infomercials," news coverage, and bricks and mortar sites once littered the landscape, now blogs, vlogs, and gaming portals compete for attention.

The proliferation of alternate forms of media has rescued once obscure topics from the bottom of the sludge heap. With so many sites competing for attention, many write about unusual topics as a way to distinguish themselves from the pack. As a result, topics are now more narrowly focused. For example, pink flamingos. Can you imagine anyone devoting an entire site to these pastel-colored lawn ornaments? Yet every day, such sites are becoming more commonplace.

For the Tuesday Wrap, I decided to embark upon my own little treasure hunt, exploring and i-Lighting slightly strange websites. I give these sites a lot of credit. They've established a unique significance, lending a bit of prominence over the rest. Their draw keeps them circulating among the top search results, almost guaranteeing future relevance.

Who knows? Maybe in the future, there will be a need for this type of information. In the meantime, the following micro-topics make a fun and relaxing read.

At the site for lucid dreaming, one can find a descriptive step-by-step guide to create lucid dreams, first hand accounts of conscious dreaming, videos, and a well-stocked archive.

My Bad Habits is a site focusing exclusively on bad habits and the methods to effectly change them. Almost like self-analysis, but so much more miniscule, the site is a journey into psycho-analysis. Be prepared for a bumpy ride.

I don't think this site provides any new updates, but its topics and photgraphs are kind of cute. An exploration of breakfast cereals and occasional philiosophical commentary of no inherent worth whatsoever. Devour extensive research of no substance and pour a jug of milk to wash it down.

Whoever thought of this topic is a real genius. Unboxing. No, literally, taking the packaging off of stuff. Hard to believe, but true. The videos may even have viral potential.

Where's the beef? As in beef jerky. Hard to believe that anyone could keep a site about something so inconsequential. The Best Beef Jerky provides news, reviews, and some excellent photography. I love how the author outright admits he pens the site is to wangle free beef jerky samples. I-Lighter could certainly help in the collection of jerky news articles.

Just think. The technology is also free.
